Mitchell, I'm pretty sure that they are new with warranty. I've
seen the package they come in and they look exactly like the one
that my own Zip came in several years prior. Same packaging,
manual, disk, Zip, and chip removal tool. If it was a refurb, I
would think that they would put a sticker over the technical
support number, etc.
Here's the funny thing about Alltech's cards: they all run at
7MHz but actually have 8MHz processors. This may sound stupid,
but what if Alltech and EGO had an agreement to sell Zips of
different speeds in order to split the remaining market down the
middle? This would make much sense because Alltech could request
7MHz operation for its card and REMCorp would do this by
underclocking its CPU with a 28MHz oscillator.
Alltech carries the 7/32 while EGO had only the 8/16. This is
very suspicious if you think about it. Why does Alltech's run
slower but have more cache? Why is EGO's faster but have half
the cache? Alltech's is cheaper. Sounds like dividing the market
to me.
