Apple ][ Plus video problems

I recently bought an Apple ][ Plus from a used computer store for
$10. When I connected it to a B&W TV using a Modulator that came
with a Commodore 64, the video was *all* messed up--just thin
extremely wavely lines vertically down the screen.

Later I got a junk Apple green-screen monitor. When I hooked up
the ][ Plus to the Apple monitor, everything worked fine.

I understand that Apple ]['s were sold with a modulator known
as a Sup'rMod. What is the difference between this modulator
and the C64 modulator? Can I get the ][ Plus to work with the
C64 modulator through some fete of magic?
