I nominate the 65816 addons for //e's and //c's. These were to "likely be able
to run the software for the new Apple computer!" according to Checkmate ads in
the '85-'86 era prior to the IIgs rollout. Not so, of course. The only software
to make use of a 16 bit chip in those boxes was some of Glen Bredon's stuff,
for which a 65802 was just as good and much cheaper, and VIP Professional.
All I could ever get VIP to do on my 65802 equipped //e was crash in any event.
