I am trying to get an Apple IIgs and an APS 230 MO to work together
and so far, zip, nada ... . This drive uses the Olympus mechanism
and is housed in a APS SR2000 case (switchable active termination).
Here are the symptoms: Whenever I put a MO disc in, the APS drive
light comes on briefly and thens goes out again. I can not tell if
the disc keeps spinning or not as my hard drive's fan is fairly loud,
but if I had to guess, I would say yes. The IIgs just will not mount
the drive: Put the MO disc in while in the Finder - nothing. Put
the MO disc in while in Advanced Disk Utilities - nothing (well maybe
a glimmer: one time as I advanced partitions, the memo briefly read
something like "empty or uninitialized drive" but it quickly went to
the next partition name. Could not get it to do it again). Put the
disc in before booting or turning on the computer - nothing.
Another thing I noticed was the MO's activity light did not blink
when "polled" as my Syquest does.
My system: ROM 03, Apple Hi-speed SCSI card, Quantum 240 hard drive,
Syquest 105 removable (tried both in and out), System 6.0.1, Apple's
SCSI drivers (also tried the Tulin Floptical SCSI drivers), and if it
matters, an 8mhz ZipGS and 6 megs on a AE GS-Ram Plus card. The SCSI
cables are all APS cables.
Can anyone offer any suggestions?
