Apple IIgs and printers

Greetings,

One of my aunt's owns an Apple IIgs system and was 
hoping that I could get some information for her.

The question involves attaching a printer to the
computer itself.  They are currently using some sort
of dot matrix printer that was made by Apple.  

Her questions: 
   1. Can she attach one of the newer HP printers
      to her system?  Or any other inkjet type 
      printer for that matter...
   2. If so, what all is needed?
