Laser 128 and 3.5" drive

I have a Laser 128 that seems to work fine.  I also have 2 external Laser
800k drives that work fine on my //e with Laser UDC card.

However, when I hook up either of the drives to the external drive port on
Laser 128, the computer sees them as 5.25" drives and of course returns read
errors.

I was under the impression the Laser 128 had UDC capabilities built in.  Is
this right?  Is there something to configure (like the position of the slot 
switches)?  Can anyone tell me how to get this to work?  Or is something 
broken?
