In addition to having Slot 7 set to AppleTalk, you need to set Slot 1 to
"Your Card" rather than to Printer, its default setting. At that point you
should be able to get on the network with your Apple IIGS.
As for the ImageWriter being on the Network, Randy is correct that you
need a LocalTalk card in the ImageWriter. Apple produce(d?s?) one, as does
Sequential Systems. It installs beneath the front panel, which is held in
place by two small Phillips head screws. After the card is installed, you
need to change the setting of DIP Switch 2-4 to enable the card.
