Apple IIgs is ticking???

Hi,
When it comes to Apple II's I'll admit to being a Newbie, in the last
week I've picked up a IIe, and a IIgs to play with and maybe do a little
programming on.

After much trial and tribulation, I managed to get the IIgs to boot off
of disks from the Apple disk images on the one Apple ftp site.  Turns
out my PowerMac was the problem there.

So now I've got this nice little IIgs set up so I can dial into my work
account and do something productive, however it makes this annoying
little ticking.

My setup is as follows:
        Apple IIgs ROM 01, w/1Meg board
        GS/OS 6.0.1
        two Apple 3.5" drives
        RGB Monitor

Could someone clue me in as to why this thing is ticking????
