There is also a playable (but uncompleted) beta that exists, which
two readers of this group have in their possession. One of them was a
beta-tester, the other is a programmer Discovery Software contracted
when Scott Patterson left the project. It had the first three levels,
as well as an additional 3 or 4, including the final "boss" level (but
lacked several of the levels in-between and apparently crashed often).
I've tried my best, but both absolutely refuse to let me see it,
despite the fact: 1) the game was cancelled seven years ago. 2) The
original programmer has no objections to his defunct work-in-progress
being seen and distributed (on condition he is legally entitled, since
he just did a port of an Amiga title). 3) Discovery Software went out
of business and no longer exists in any form. Both of them signed a
non-disclosure agreement and are sticking to it despite any of the
above. Anyhow, the dealer-demo is most likely all we'll ever see. :/
Even though I have neat games like Blood, Duke 3D and Carmageddon
on my PC (which are far more advanced than Sword of Sodan) I'd still
love to see missing games like Renegade and Sword of Sodan running on
the IIgs. Can't quite explain it, there's just something magical about
the GS, even to this day. :)
