Printer Compatibility Questions...

I'm getting to a level of affluence where I can consider the purchase
of something better for a printer than the Imagewriter II dot matrix...
like maybe a used Okidata 400 or 600, or a Canon 4000...I see theses things on
auctions and wonder if the IIGS I have has any software drivers for it to
take advantage of these types of printers (yes, Nathan, I've checked the
FAQs...).
 
I seem to recall previous discussions here on csa2 regarding use of
newer inkjet printers including the LED printers by Okidata and of
course the venerable HP DeskJets...just missed a DEC 550ic recently,
new in the box, and I seem to recall vaguely that it had serial and
parallel input and could be driven from the IIGS.
 
Is there a storehouse of compatible printer info somewhere in addition to
the FAQ?  Are there folks out there who would share their "non-standard"
printer usage info with me/us?
