Re: Apple ][ forever???

: Apple ][ forever?
: I have an old Apple ][+ clone and some home-made hardware for it, and
: I love this machine. I learned programming and understanding computers
: with it and really hate to see that it is becoming more and more useless.
: Why?
: IMHO the problem lies in a lack of free software:

This is really the point behind being obsolete. Everyone keeps
screaming about hardware, but's nothing...why do 386's still hold a viable
position? Because MS whatever will run on it...slow as molasses but it
still will run. This is what will prevent the Apple //'s from becoming
obsolete....Being able to bridge platforms...If you were able to save your
AWGS files as say Word, Excel, or Works files, you're //gs would become as
good, or even better than the PC. It would have the compatibility needed.
Just a quick modem transfer and you're set. Being able to read such
files...possbily PDF, Postscript, files that other platforms use...this is
what's going to prevent the Apple //'s from going down. Right now I'm
scared that I will have to get a PC so I can get on the internet. No one
is offering shell accounts, everything is PPP, if GSTCP/IP doesn't come
out, you might as well kiss the Apple //gs goodbye...
