What?  The only hoax was II Alive's "authoritative" article about it.

I don't know of any "clubs" that can redesign and manufacture there own
motherboards, using surface mount components nonetheless.  I have seen one
of the machines with my own eyes (not some cheesy B/W photo in a
"magazine").  It's definitely not some "club project".
