GS help plea

I'm an old Apple ][+, //e and Franklin user from way back. Now, I have
a //gs. (03) and expect to be here with odd-ball questions fairly
often.
Here is my first.  The "About this Apple" pulldown says there is 1152k
total memory. (Normal for a rom03, right?)  When I plug in an App.Eng.
GS-RamPlus card with 16 1meg chips in rows A & B, it tells me that I
now have 7296k.   Hmmm, This does not compute.
 
I have been told that the reason is because I am trying to use the
rom01 version in my rom03 and need a different PAL chip. Since A.E. is
out of business, is there a source?
 
Todays second is software. I do not know how to tell GSshrinkit or
similar programs how to find the files to be unpacked. I get a blank
white page with a message asking where is the file and the wristwatch
curser that waits forever.
I get the same result when I double click on a SEA file. A white page
with a message "Extract the enclosed files("GSHK"etc) where?"
 
A keystroke by keystroke walkthru would be appreciated. I'm really
confused.
