Exactly my point. Since there is no way that an Apple motherboard
can safely distribute over 100 watts, what is the point of adding a
connector to permit that potentially destructive power to get there
even easier?
Better to put a couple of fast-blow 10 amp fuses in the +5 and +12
leads going to the motherboard. Then a short will at least not vaporize
board traces or start a fire!
I think it's cool that you power supply runs cool, but that has nothing
to do with allowing it to fry your motherboard in the event of a fault
(like removing a card with the power on **OOPS**, burned contacts
and board traces, not just a fried IC).
This reminds me of people who connect their speakers to their
amps with $500 wires (!) with a resistance of .001 ohms, when the
impedance of the speakers is 4000 times greater, or more! Except
in the case we're discussing, its a 250 watt "amplifier" connected to
a 50 watt "speaker"! ;-/
Keep up the good work, Steve, but don't bother with the dual
connectors--maybe try inline fuses instead! ;-)
