U4MOCK is a collection of files which lets you play Ultima IV with
MockingBoard sound on a MockingBoard-equipped IIgs. You can, also, set
Speed to Normal and set the screen Border Color. None of this requires
changing Control Panel settings.
When you unpack U4MOCK.SHK you will get two .SDK files:
U4MB.INST.SDK and U4DD.SDK. These are shrinked DOS 3.3-compatible 5.25"
disks which must be unpacked to 5.25" diskettes using 8-bit ShrinkIt.
You will have two major setup options:
New Boot Disk- Copy the files on Ultima IV's copy-protected boot disk
(Side A: Program Disk) to a diskette initialized under a fast DOS (e.g.
David-DOS) and place the U4SETUP program on the Copy. This 'open' Copy
becomes your "New Ultima IV Boot" disk. It will get you into the game
quickly with the desired MockingBoard Slot, Speed, and Border Color setup
with no need to boot a separate disk.
Separate Startup Disk- Place the U4SETUP program on a separate disk. The
program will, as above, let you set MockingBoard Slot(s), Speed, and
Border Color settings. It will boot your original Ultima IV boot disk and
start the game with the settings you've selected.
Complete details are included in a README text file. So far,
U4MOCK.SHK has been uploaded to Ground's 1WSW area.
If you've been itching to play Ultima IV on a MockingBoard-equipped
GS _and_ hear the music, check out U4MOCK.
