transfer files between .hdv and .dsk/.do

How does one transfer files between ApplePC's .hdv (hard disk format)
and other emulators' .dsk/.do formats?  

I can't seem to get ApplePC to start up so I don't know if it can read
.dsk/.do formats (if it does there wouldn't be a problem except for my
being unable to boot it).  I have here a  .hdv file whose contents I
would like to check out.  Is there any program available that can do the
transfer?

Also, how does one boot ApplePC anyway?  If I type in APPLE at the
prompt, the screen clears and seems to initialize, but the Apple //c
logo never comes on.  I did get to do it once, but I don't know how.  At
that time, some error message saying something like "Check the Floppy
Disk Drive" came out.  There's nothing in the documentation that
explains what to do, so I would really appreciate some advice.
