Hard Disk][

Inspired by the work of Steve Buggie, I have built my own HardDisk][
(putting a 3.5" Quantum hard drive into an old Disk][ case) and am
really pleased with the results. I don't get to meddle with power tools
as often as my Y-chromosome wishes, so this was a real testosterone rush
for me. The front looks like your standard Disk][, with the addition of
a green LED at the lower-left of the drive door to show juice. The back
has holes for two Centronics-50F plugs and a small internally-mounted
fan (yes, Steve, better safe than sorry -- Radio Shack part 273-246 has
a power line plug and jack so that saved some wiring time), and there is
a few inches of power line (held down with the internal ribbon clip!)
sticking out where the ribbon cable used to be. Had I a little more
room I would have put the SCSI-ID clicker on the back too but nahh.
A little cyanoacrylate holds the drive door and front panel in place.
The power supply came from a Tandy 386 I found at the dump. :)

I'm not going to do this again in the near future, it was just a fun
little project to test my mettle, so I heartily endorse Steve Buggie's
HardDisk][ -- he does all the gruntwork and all you have to do is insert
a SCSI drive into the prepared case -- and a bargain at $25 + shipping.

Thanks dept (the Warholian 15 minutes): Many thanks to S.Buggie for the
tech info and hints -- I swiped the 50-pin-to-Cent50's out of one of my
HD's so I need to find another one <hint>, to Aric Williams for the use
of the tools and actually doing the sawing when I thought I was going to
put a 1" router through my chest, to the `Apple II's of Tacoma` for
still being around (meetings first Thursday of each month), and to
RatShack for parts though they do NOT carry the kind of standoffs you
find on serial comm ports: screw on one end, screwhole on the other. A
tip of the hat to the shmuck who trashed a 386, who did have the sense
to keep their hard drive (gotta give them that much), whomever you were.
