In this vein, when you do the 'launch <path>'/'init 5' combo with
GNO when GNO is running off an HFS partition, and the <path> is a
P8 program,

after the system switches to P8, it gives a text dialogue asking
for the HFS partition to be inserted.  Of course, it can't see
the partition because it's in P8 mode.  So you get an infinite 
non-breakable loop.  Reboot is the only solution.

And no, the P8 program is not on the HFS partition, it's on a
perfectly stable ProDOS partition, and it works the rest of the
time when launched from the Finder.
