Hi Paul,

I received the HDD and the 4 MB board today (got 'em from MC Price
Breakers - a very nice company; I've enjoyed dealing with them so far.
They're very helpful), as well as the GS CPU, 3.5 FD, and mouse (from the
gentleman who was selling his own system - the rest is following,
hopefully in daily shipments). So I stuck the SCSI card in slot 7 (is
that the right thing to do?), twisted open one of the portholes (a GREAT
idea!! I love those!) and stuck the connector through the case. I also
put the 4 MB card in there, closed it up and hooked up the hard drive.
Now I just have to wait for the keyboard and monitor to arrive so I can
actually use it. The anticipation is killing me! :)

So far, I'm very impressed with the engineering. It was very cleanly
done, and is very user friendly.

BTW, I was "this close" to buying a GS back when they came out. At
the time, I had the //c, and wanted to "trade up." I went to the store,
checked out the system (and made sure it ran my favorite //c programs - I
was quite skeptical that it was truly compatable), and was thrilled with
the windowing system (which was a novelty for me at the time). But I
ultimately decided against it, mainly for financial reasons. Ah, missed
opportunities!

Oh, BTW2 - the system says "Rev Level: 03" - since I can't use it yet
(and therefore can't see the ROM 0x come up on the screen), I assume that
means I have a ROM 03 version.

Finaly BTW - Did anyone else miss out because of being ignorant of all
the neat options available for these computers?? I gave up on Apple ][
because I thought it was incapable of the things I wanted to do (run a
BBS, use bitmapped fonts,etc.). If only I'd known! If only I'd
subscribed to a good Apple ][ magazine! My local stores had stopped
carrying most of the Apple ][ stuff, so I erroneously assumed it was
dead. Little did I know there was a huge variety of hardware and software
available via mail order... :(

Thank you! :)

Point me to an interesting newsgroup that is flame-free, and I'll be
quite surprised. :) [No, this isn't an endorsement of flamage; I think
heated argument is a waste of time. Argument is good if you can learn
something from it; but I find that nearly all flamewars have absolutely no
exchange of useful information in them. But, any subject that people are
passionate about will have flamewars. For better or worse, the most
interesting subjects are those that people are passionate about. I guess
that falls under the heading of taking the good with the bad.]
