Mr friend thinks that the disk that comes with the Zip drive is a
tools disk and as such has some sort of software write protect that
the internal Zip processor pays attention to and won't format the
disk.
He "thinks" that a non-tools disk would format on the IIgs. No proof
though.
For some reason the RamFAST format gets around the problem.

My friend Howard has one working on a //e as his primary HD. He used a
Mac to format the disk though.
