I'm guessing that the directory is slightly corrupted. There is a
byte in the directory that should have one of three values to indicate
a volume directory, a subdirectory, or a (plain) file. If you have
ProSEL, use the block editor to fix the directory entry. See the
ProDOS Technical Reference regarding the byte locations and values.
