The second example should be "TERM=vt100 ; export TERM" (ie. no "set"). This
is for a Bourne-type shell, like bash (you'll probably have a prompt ending
with a $ sign). The first example is correct if you're still stuck in a
buggy ol' C-shell (prompt ending with a % or > sign). :)

"export TERM=vt100" will also work from bash.

"tset" isn't particularly necessary; it just sends some terminal init strings
appropriate to your terminal, and potentially sets TERMCAP (which you probably
don't need to worry about).
