Not any more <g>. I am completing a set of enhancements to the (free)
U-Mich netatalk package. This is an Appletalk server application which
runs on almost any modern Unix system. I am currently using Linux
2.0.29 with Brad Johnson's LocalTalk PC driver. The driver supports the
original Apple LocalTalk PC card and its immediate Farallon-labeled
successors (onboard 65C02).
Currently, I am able to mount volumes from a IIe with a Workstation
card. Since Linux can directly r/w MS-DOS partitions, this is a neat
way to move files back and forth at speeds far greater than RS232! The
IIgs built-in ports are proving more stubborn. There is some kind of
timing problem which causes it not to work with the Linux box, though it
can talk with a Mac SE on the same network.
Great minds are at work on this as I write... When this is ready for
prime-time, I intend to release the patches to the netatalk maintainers.
Stay tuned.
Steve
