When I was putting together my tower, I asked the same thing.
Everyone I heard from said that they hadn't bothered with any sort
of card bracket as they'd not had any problems. I was still a bit
concerned, but my board's been on its side for a year now, and even
been through a couple of fairly rough moves (with the cards still
in place), and I've not had any problems or noticed the cards
working loose. (However, being horizontal now, they do catch the
dust better.)
If you or anyone else comes up with a good solution, I'd love to
take a look and consider adding it to my tower. I think all of my
cards are pretty much the same height, but I suppose there might
be big enough differences to make it difficult to use a totally
flat support.
