Betcha the drive isn't white and doesn't say "Apple Unidisk 3.5" on the bottom.
That's the only kind of drive which works on //c's. Or it's also possible
that your //c needs a ROM upgrade if you do have a Unidisk 3.5. Those are the
two possible reasone why it doesn't work. Well, aside from defective hardware
of course.
