IRC chat?

 Here's a quick run through on what to do:
 
  1) download and install on your system a copy of a chat client (MIRC or
       PIRCH)
 
   2) log into your ISP and start your chat client.
 
         Once logged into the server type the following  /join #exchangors
 
         All IRC commands begin with the /
 
         This will bring you to the channel where we meet and great members
 
 
Question:
Is there a way for Apple//GS to take part in IRC?
How?
I use Proterm3.1.
