It seems I was duped.

Someone on a local BBS offered to help track down Quality after I
related Dr. Tom's the reply from Corel.  Soon after, he posted that
he knew someone from there and was helping me find out about it.
The letter arrived in my mailbox, postmarked from MA, so I thought
all was well.

I have tried to finger this guy, who posts as "Diablo," but he's
got his info flagged as private.  I've emailed the sysop about
it and will see what happens.  I'm truly sorry about this whole
mess.
