Mac Performa modem to an Apple 2c

Hi,
	Please help:  I have a Macintosh Performa 2400 baud modem
("TelePort Bronze Fax/Modem for Macintosh Performa") that I'd like to
hook up to my Apple 2c.  I have a crappy communications program that I
think works, but I don't know how to properly hook the modem up as the
connector cord on the modem is the wrong shape.  By using a MIDI
connector thing I was able to get the cords to line up, but I can't
get the Apple 2 to recognize the modem.  I'm probably going about it
the wrong way, so any help at all would be appreciated.  Thanks in
