I believe that the reason the Performa 62XX can't be a server for the
IIGS is that a PowerMac needs to use AppleShare 4.x server software, and
that doesn't allow _booting_ an Apple II off the network.
However, an Apple IIGS or IIe with network card can still connect to a
shared disk on the Performa using regular System 7 file sharing on the
Mac; if the Performa is running AppleShare, it can serve as a file
server, but not as a boot volume.
