If you've got a modem on the PC, you can just string a phone cord between the 
two.  Mind you, it *will* be at 300 baud.  Eugh.

Um. . . converting Applesoft to Qbasic/Vbasic is likely to be painful, unless 
the Applesoft program in question doesn't do much that's interesting.  :)  
They're quite different, and BASIC isn't exactly a portable language, anyway.

You can't, as Doug points out, use a null modem cable unless the Apple has a 
serial card.
