Re: Help with SCSI-2

I am wondering if I am suffering from something similar.

I bought a 540 MB drive at a computer show here, and got it to work (I
thought) with my old CMS SCSI card and the larger of the two CMS
drives I have. Loaded up a bunch of files on it, etc.

Then, started noticing data corruption setting in. This got worse and
worse, until files on the other drive started getting corrupted too.

To make a very long story short, I enable term and term power on the
new drive, and put it at the end of the chain; disabled term and put
it in the middle; and all sorts of combos in between. Sometimes I
could get the system to see it; sometimes I could even partition it;
sometimes the system would completely hang; and sometimes only the old
drive would show up.

No matter what I did, even if it seemed to work okay, whenever I would
copy a large file (such as the WPGS main file) there would be random
data corruption, as revealed by ProSel's Compare Files command.

Is this possibly a SCSI-2 drive that just won't work with this old CMS
card? Or, is the drive just flaky? BTW, I tried booting from a
floppy with only the new drive on the bus -- no good.

Any thoughts appreciated. For now, I am back to the two old CMS
drives, and the new .5 gig is sitting off by itself, gathering dust.
