Mac OS X 10.6 has dropped write support for HFS volumes. HFS is now
read-only. HFS+ is fully supported, of course, but that only works on
Mac OS 8.1 and later, and not on the IIgs.

No easy fix short of keeping another Mac running an older version of Mac
OS X (or having a bootable Mac OS X 10.5 system on hand for the
occasions where you want to write files to an HFS volume).
