Re: .gz to pk

Just because a file was given a "txt" filetype doesn't mean that it was
downloaded in text mode. As an example, I use ProTERM 3.1 and have set
the default filetype to "txt" for Zmodem as most of my file transfers
involve program source code. If I want to download a Shrinkit file, it
will come to me with a "txt" filetype but still be perfectly unpackable.

As for .gz files, the best method as previously stated is to get
them uncompressed before download. On most Unix systems, the command is
"gunzip <filename.gz>" where you substitute the proper filename. To
download a binary, if your system has the Zmodem protocol installed and
your terminal software also can deal with that protocol, is "sz
<filename>." For text files, "sz -a <filename>" will work great.
