Why the Apple II was on the right track...

Just a quick vent... We all love our Apple II's, mostly because we can make
them work the way WE want. "Open the case! Come on in! Move things around!
I'm a friendly Apple II!" Every once in awhile, I ask myself if I made the
right choice, adding a PC to the Apple II, instead of adding a Mac. Today, I
was reminded that I made the right choice. I got a Mac Performa 200 just to
add to the collection of computers, and it's a lot of fun! My workplace had
some spare parts floating around, so I got a bigger hard drive and more RAM
for the Performa. Too bad I can't even open the system to install it. I
can't believe, because I don't have a torx screwdriver with a 20 foot neck, I
can't get into this mac. I guess I forgot this thing was made during that
Apple era of "customers don't need to get inside". Just for kicks, I looked
in the manual, and every single section concerning expansion of any kind, says
"consult your dealer".

Today's mac is obviously different, but I'm an 80's computer guy, darnit. I
enjoy a good hardware hack. That's how I LEARNED. It's a darn shame people
won't have the same learning experience that the Apple II provided.

Ok I'm finished.
