I did exactly this, transferring Appleworks files from my IIc to my
LCIII via a direct serial connection. I used Zlink on the IIc and Zterm
on the mac. When I initiallized Zterm on the mac the connection was
automatically there, and I just started the Xmodem transfer on both
machines. Note: I don't remember on which machine I started the
transfer first, but it did make a difference.
Once the file was on the mac, I had to change the type/creator codes so
Clarisworks would recognize it. To get the codes, I saved a CW file in
Appleworks format, then 'stole' the codes from the file.
I have no idea why your Zterm insists on dialing. In the same way it
should be able to say 'AT' to the modem and recieve an 'OK', it should
be able to talk to the IIc. I assume you reversed pin 2 & 3 (and the
H/S pins) when making your cable. If not, you need a null modem. I
simply made a 'breakout box' and played with the jumpers until it
worked.
