Actually I thought the price was relatively reasonable for a piece of
"brandname" hardware, considering that Apple is selling one-button 
mouses for the same price, and Logitech's mouses are only a few
bucks cheaper.

I am pretty sure that it was called the Softcard.  Microsoft even came
out with a version for the //e - "MS Premium SoftCard //e" later on. 
They 
brought tons of magazine ads for this product back in the early 80s.
This 
card was mentioned in the PBS computer documentary, "Triumph of the
Nerds" 
on PBS, as this card played a tiny part in the birth of MS-DOS.
