Steve, JDR Microdevices sells this type of chip for just a few dollars.
As Barry Rees noted, this product only shows up in their Electronic
Component's catalog, not their PC Products one (they have two catalogs),
but the company itself carries everything.
Their web site = http://www.jdr.com/
Their phone = 1-800-538-5000
It seems people have indeed used these in their Zip GS models, at
least ones running at 10MHz or less. The chips are .6mil wide-body
28-pin 32K static RAMs.
You can also build yourself an adapter to plug skinny .3mil chips
into the .6mil sockets (basically take a skinny DIP socket and
solder the leads to a wide-body DIP component carrier). You can
also find .3mil to .6mil adapters (fully assembeled) from DigiKey,
but they may be a bit less stable. These let you use .3mil chips
with the Zip.
