That sounds worthwhile; go for it! However don't be surprised with non-
responsiveness from some schools. My local elementary used to have an
Apple //e lab with about 30 computers. The only software they had was
PAWS, a typing program. I offered my services to help in the lab and to
get some freeware/shareware type software for them, which I did. One day
the principal and I talked about the lab. She flat out said that the
//e's were "junk" and that she was going to replace them.

Well the principal and her flunky convinced the Home & School Club to do
a fundraiser. Net result: $10-15,000 bought them 14 or 15 Mac LC 5x0
type machines. The Apple //e's were sold, probably for nothing, to some
reseller. So now we have a lab with 15 Macs, instead of 30 Apple //e's,
which of course is not enough for each student.  They split the classes;
one half goes to the library while the other half uses the Macs,
switching halfway through a 45-50 minute class period.

And...AND!...do you know what they're using those Macs for? To teach the
kids how to type! The same damn thing they used the Apple //e's for!
AAAaaarrrrgggghhhh!  :/
