High density != double density.
In "the old days" I had very few single density floppies and over a thousand
double-density. The Apple II, II+, //e, and my trusty Franklin ACE 1000 liked
'em just fine, although they were not required. It's just that it became
difficult, rather quickly, to find single density disks.
*HIGH* density, on the other hand (as in PC 1.2MB format disks), or, for that
matter, QUAD density disks (as in Tandy 2000 720K 5 1/4" floppies), won't work
reliably at all.
