IIgs Rom1 _weirdness_
Hello, I decided to bring out my second (spare parts) GS from
mothballs and set it up for a 'lite prgramming platform.
It is a Rom1 (text splash on bootup), 1.25Meg memory (tested it's fine),
Superdrive card & superdrive in slot 5, Apple HighSpeed SCSI in slot7
with a 52MB Quantum in 2 partitions (17.5MB and 31.5MB...done with ADU).
A minimal System6.0.1 boots from 800k floppies leaving ~400k free. I
have tried a 1.44 ProDOS 6.0.1 boot disk...$0046 error or 'cannot load
Start.GSOS file'...this is also the error I get when trying to boot
from the HD (the Quantum is terminated and supplies term power, bought
from TMS about a year before they folded). I also get $0911 errors
after it's been on for about 30 min., the HD is on top of the GS box
and it has a fan on the bottom for air flow thru the GS.
I tried to fire it up about 4 months ago using a IIc monitor, but got
$0911 errors at powerup...I could not even bring up the text Control
Panel.
The GS has the IIe keyboard jacks on the motherboard, so it could be
a Rom0 that was upgraded (or partially upgraded). I need a little help
with this. I have more cards in it now so it could still be a flakey
power supply. But I think it's a blown-gate on one of the MB chips
(cpu?), or a cold solder joint somewhere. The weird thing about this
is that I can only boot from 800k volumes...nothing larger. Any ideas?
I checked out the setup with the IIgs Diagnostics disk from Apple (I
got this from the local repair depot for the UserGroup)...it passes :(
BitBanger, a memory tester from GEnie (Harold Hislop) gave the GS it's
blessing as well.
I check out this newsgroup every other day. Any help or insights on this
would be helpful...I was planning to trade it in for a Rom3 MB by summer
anyways.
Thanks, Todd Myers (tmyers@autobahn.mb.ca)
