Hard Drive woes...
I just picked up a used HD for real cheap (free :), but it seems to have
some problems. I'm not sure if it even works.
I've got a ROM 01 GS, RamFAST rev D (3.00l), ZipGS (9Mhz/64k),
Soundmeister, and a Grappler+ in the machine right now.
The drive is a Seagate ST11900N mechanism.
The RamFAST utils complain the drive is formatted with an incorrect block
size (which is possible - the drive was used on a PC before), and that I need
to format it. I ask it to do so.
It reports the device name, but not the serial number, device size, or
space available in the SCSIUtils screen. It's a 1:1 interleave, etc, etc.
There's a k on the right edge of the Sectors/Track and Heads readout.
When I try to format the disk, it spins up, makes a little noise. After
a variable amount of time (anywhere from 30 seconds to over an hour), I
get a RamFAST MLI error:
Command: 03-04 83 00 60 00 00 00 00 00
Status: 27
(alternately, I've seen Command: 03-04 85 00 60 00 00 00 00 00 with the
same status)
So what do these codes mean? Is the drive fried and useless? I've tried
both with and without a terminator, alone in the SCSI chain.
I also tried formatting it on a Mac, but I can't even get the thing to
notice the drive (I know little about installing external mac drives,
however...:)
Any help is appreciated!
