PB1400cs sporadic startup problems//pre-extensions

I recently purchased a PB1400cs/117mhz/16mb and I am having startup
problems. It's very unusual because it happens with extensions off. Even
odder is we have another PB1400cs and it's doing the same exact thing.
Has anybody heard of this or similiar problem? Apple thinks it's the HD
and they told me to send it back but I don't have the time. It's very
hard to believe that this problem is happening on two PB1400cs and
nobody else is having the problem. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
