I've seen a similar device advertised years ago made out of plastic.  I
don't recall what it was called though, and would be hard pressed to
find the advertising copy again.

Another neat trick for 3.5" disks that you don't want your kids to use:
get one of those tiny luggage or diary locks and lock it through the
write protect or HD holes of the disk.  This prevents the disk from
entering the drive.
