Converting parallel Iomega Zip to SCSI?

Is there a way to modify a parallel port Zip Drive to work
like an SCSI model?  I've been told that the parallel port
model is actually an SCSI device with an on-board parallel-
to-SCSI conversion.  Any ideas?
