You mean swapping the bare drive mechanism? Yep, a Sony 800K mech is an
800K mech, be it in a unidisk, grey 3.5, or internal in a Mac Plus. Real
simple to swap 'em around. I put a superdrive in one of my grey 3.5 enclosures
and turned it into an external superdrive even.

Eh? I've swapped all kinds of mechs around and got it all to work.
