Hard Drive Icon won't open

I have problem: my hard drive icon, when opened, doesn't open!
Well, it greys out as if opening (complete w/ sound) but no box opens. :(
 
Other drives, including Ram, open fine. I tried booting w/ shift down, 
but that didn't make any difference.
 
I have "hots keys" installed which I use almost exclusively for the few 
apps I run, so I'm not even sure how long this has been like this.
 
Any tips on what steps to take to figure this out?
