I've had both a IIc (and now own) a IIc+. For Appleworks I like the
IIc+ hands down! It has the built-in 3.5 inch 800K drive which will
be ideal for sharing files with a Mac. The IIc with UniDisk will also
do this but the UniDisk is SSSLLLLOOOWWWW! Also, the IIc+ runs at
4 MHz while the IIc runs at 1 MHz. Finally, there were several
versions of the IIc, some of which are not as easy to upgrade the
memory. With the IIc+ you know you are getting the latest model in
the 8 bit Apple II lineage. Finally, if running Appleworks 5.1 you
will need at least 256KB of memory which means you will have to
upgrade either the IIc or IIc+ (both come with 128KB memory). I
believe Sequential Systems and Alltech Electronics carry IIc/IIc+
memory upgrades. If you get a 1MB upgrade you can have AW 5.1
completely load into memory and then you can use the 3.5" drive
for handling your data disk without having to worry about disk
swapping.
One last quick point, if using AW 5.1, it is shipped on 3.5" disks.
