My experience with current Macs is near zero. IF, "in the PC part",
your PowerMac acts like a PC, then, for CD-ROM and similar peripherals,
you will normally want to execute some kind of INSTALL program, supplied
on diskette with the peripheral. Usually, this INSTALL program's main job
is to copy drivers, etc. to some directory and modify CONFIG.SYS and/or
AUTOEXEC.BAT to load-in the files upon booting.
An alternative to such an INSTALL is for the user to edit his/her
CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files (using a TEXT editor) to allow
activation of the new peripheral. The peripheral's manual should include
directions telling which statements need to be added.
You mention a SoundBlaster 16. A common problem for PC users
installing new stuff is conflict over the use of interrupts and ports.
Check the SB manual and the CD-ROM manual for info about jumper or DIP
switch settings. You may have to make some changes to avoid conflicts.
