Here's my reading on the two:
ZipGS. Pro: still being sold new, simpler design (less noise, less
power), easier to go to 64K cache or 128K 'split' cache. Con: cache is
less efficient than TWGS, so 32K TWGS cache is roughly equivalent to
Zip64K.
TWGS. Pro: speed freaks seem to prefer this for >13Mhz or so. For a
given Mhz/Cache size, tends to be faster than similarly configured
Zip. Con: Available used only, real hard to find replacement GALs to
push real old TWGSs over 10Mhz (if you can't find a used TWGS with the
new GALs, you may not want to bother).
As to my card, my Zip'9/32s 'cache access' LED has never worked. As
the case is on my GS 99% of the time and it runs just fine, I don't
mind this. I keep meaning to upgrade it one of these months.
