After power-up and no boot, press CTRL-RESET (hold down the CONTROL
key and press RESET) to get to the BASIC prompt. Type-in PR#6 and press
RETURN. If your 5.25" drive is connected via SLOT 6, it should try to boot
whatever diskette is in the drive. (If your 5.25" drive is plugged into
the normal GS disk drive socket, it is "in" Slot 6.)

If your 5.25" drive is plugged into a Disk ][ interface card, the PR#
you type in needs to be the number of the Slot the card is plugged into.
(Probably, it will be in Slot 6.)

The GS Control Panel lets you simplify things. In the Control Panel,
you can pick which Slot to boot from upon power-up. After power-up and
CTRL-RESET, you should be at the standard Applesoft prompt. Press
Open-Apple - CTRL - ESCAPE (all three keys at once) to get to the CDA
menu. (The "Open-Apple" key is the one next to the Option key with an
apple on it.) Select "Control Panel".

Once 'in' the Control Panel, select "Slots". Set the Startup Slot to
"Scan". (Use the left, right arrow keys to change settings.) This choice
means that, upon power-up, the GS will try to boot from Slot 7, then Slot
6, ... on down until it finds a drive it can boot from. If your 5.25"
drive is connected to a Disk ][ interface card plugged into Slot 6, you
will, also, need to set Slot 6 to "Your Card". If your 5.25" drive is the
newer kind and is plugged into the GS disk drive socket, then, Slot 6
should be set to "Disk Port".

You can also check settings for Speed, display colors, etc. while in
the Control Panel. The settings will be remembered (in battery-powered
memory) even after the GS is turned OFF.
